E-mail Print PDF

The most common symptoms of an ingrown toenail are pain, redness and swelling of the toe affected by the ingrown nail. In some cases there may even be a yellowish pustule discharge.

The symptoms experienced usually occur in the following steps:

In the beginning, an ingrown toenail will cause the affected toe to redden and also cause it pain and mild swelling.

Next, the body soon reacts to the irritation caused by the pressure exerted by the nail on the skin and the region slowly drains out a yellowish fluid.

In some cases the constant irritation may soon develop into an infection. When this happens the affected toe may swell even more and the infection may cause a whitish colored discharge from the area.
