What Is An Ingrown Toenail ?
An ingrown toenail is a condition in which the corners of the nail penetrate into the toe's skin causing pain, swelling and discomfort in the affected region. Ingrown nails are seen in finger nails as well but they are more common with toenails.
What Are The Symptoms ?
Some of the typical symptoms of an ingrown toenail are painful sensations along theĀ margin borders of the nail with an increase in pain when pressure is applied.The region around the toenail may also swell and turn reddish in color and there mayt also be a pustule or liquid discharge. How Is It Treated ?
Ingrown toenails can usually be treated at home by allowing the affected toe to soak in warm water or by applying an antibiotic cream on the affected region. However if the condition is severe i.e, if there is a pustule discharge or if there is an increase in pain and swelling, then surgery may be required to treat the condition.
